Kon Tiki
Expedition
On
April 28, 1947, Norwegian Thor Hayerdahl and 5 crew members
embarked on a daring 4300 mile expedition to duplicate the
migration of the peoples from Peru to the South Sea Islands on a
balsa raft. Amid raging storms, whales and countless shark attacks
they landed on the Polynesian island of Raroia.
Our
Kon Tiki is like the remarkable success story of the undersized
balsa raft; shorter than most traditional tandems. This makes it
light and maneuverable, while the tri-hull design maintains
surprising speed and stability despite its shorter length.
User-Friendly
The
Kon Tiki is generally considered the most versatile and user
friendly tandem kayak in the world. And it is over 30% lighter
than comparative tandems and extra stiff due to the incredible
Xytec plastic process.
Kon Tiki Basic
The
Kon Tiki series offers a basic
version for rental operations and entry level paddlers
seeking an affordable, easy to maintain tandem kayak. The Kon
Tiki Expedition offers the same hull performance,
with additional outfitting options. Sealed
bulkheads create water tight compartments to keep any gear and
food dry, and provide a safe paddling environment, while the large
hatch opening allows for easy access to gear. The drop skeg comes
standard for
more efficient tracking.

Construction:
Xytec™
is much stiffer, stronger, more wear resistant and has better shape
retention than any other plastic kayak we know of. It has almost 30% more impact and
wear resistance than the best linear polyethylenes.
